Description
This tour is designed for all those who love panoramic views and like the height, but also for anyone who wants to learn curiosities and hidden stories about the popes and the history of the Vatican City.
The tour starts early in the morning, to avoid lines and the heat, and the first venue it’s the wonderful Dome of Saint Peter Basilica. You’ll need some energy to climb the 321 steps that take you to the top but your effort will be rewarded with the best view over Rome. The cupola is the highest building of the city center and doubtless it offers the best view ever!
After enjoying the great view we visit the Basilica of Saint Peter, the most important and the biggest church in the entire world, decorated with incredible masterpieces of Bernini and the Pietà of Michelangelo.
Our walk continues towards Castel Sant’Angelo, the castle that protected the popes several times trough history and that preserves incredible frescoes and decorations of their private apartments.
The castle has an incredible, interesting story that dates back to the II cent. AD, when it was built to be the tomb of Emperor Hadrian. Through the centuries it was transformed in a castle with the apartments of the popes, the prisons, and the treasury of the Papal State.
From the terrace on top of the castle you’ll enjoy another incredible view over the Eternal City, with all its domes and monuments, and over the Tiber River.
